Albert J. “A.J.” Clemens, 62, of Dubuque, Iowa passed away on Monday, April 24th, 2017 at home surrounded by his family and friends.
Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, April 27th, 2017 at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road where a service will be held at 7:00 p.m. with Rev. Dianne Grace officiating. A funeral procession will take place at 10:15 a.m. from the funeral home to Mount Calvary Cemetery where committal and burial rites will take place.
A.J. was born on January 28, 1955, at Xavier Hospital in Dubuque, Iowa, the son of Albert and Evelyn (Strumberger) Clemens. He graduated with the first senior class at Hempstead High School in Dubuque where he participated in many sports, and attended the university of Dubuque.
He worked at Sunny Crest Manor in Dubuque for 45 years lastly in the Maintenance Dept. and enjoyed working at Smith Cycle.
He was a loving father, grandfather and friend; motorcycles were his passion, and he always enjoyed the freedom of a bike ride. A.J. looked forward to spending every Sunday with his kids and grandkids. He was happiest in front of the stove or the grill cooking for everyone. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing; he was a jack of all trades who always would lend a hand to anyone in need.
He is survived by his three loving children, Stephani (Mike Hooper) Decker, Shane (Joelle) Clemens, and Sheyanne (Chuckie) woods; seven grandchildren, Alexis, Morgan, Serenity, Peyton, Prestyn, temperance, and “number 7”, Kendall. His sister, Jean (Rick) Stierman.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Michael and Richard Clemens and a sister Kathleen Clemens.
The family would like to thank Dr. Eric Engelman’s office, Dr. Mark Runde’s office, Hospice of Dubuque and the staff at Mercy Medical Center for all their wonderful care they gave to our dad.
