Alice Mae Arnold, 90, of Dubuque, Iowa passed away on October 25th, 2017 at Ennoble Manor.

Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 31st, 2017 at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery in Manchester, Iowa. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday, October 30th, 2017 at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road. Family and friends may also gather after 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at the church.

Alice Mae was born September 6, 1927 at Manchester, Iowa to Pearl (Smith) and Ludwig (Louie) Claus. She received her education in the Manchester schools, graduating from Manchester High School in 1945. After high school she attended Radio Operators School in Omaha, Nebraska. She then worked as a telephone switchboard operator for the Central Iowa Telephone Company of Manchester, from 1946 until her marriage.

On October 8, 1949 she married the love of her life, Melvin F. Arnold in Manchester. To this union three children were born, Debra, Mark, and Brian. They resided in Manchester until July 1965, when they relocated to Dubuque, due to Melvin's job with the Iowa Highway Commission (now Iowa DOT). She was a talented seamstress, and enjoyed sewing for family and friends. Many a night she would burn the midnight oil working on her next project. Alice was also a long time Volunteer at Finley Hospital, with more than 2000 Volunteer hours to her credit.

She held various jobs including: Sears Catalog Department, Northwest Fabrics, Hal Judge Interiors, Stampfers, and Rosheks. However her most enjoyable job was as an Elevator Operator at the American Trust Main Bank for 33 years, retiring in April 2015, where she made many lasting friendships.

Alice was a woman of strong faith. She was confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Delaware Iowa. Later becoming a member of First Lutheran Church in Manchester, and lastly, a faithful member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Dubuque, for more than 50 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents; Louie and Pearl Claus; In-laws, Edith and Forest Arnold; her husband Melvin in 1977; a sister and brother-in-law, Virginia and David Schmidt; sister-in-law, Doris and brother-in law, Orville Thomas.

She is survived by her children, Debra (Steve) Pascoe, of Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, Mark (Donita) Arnold, and Brian (Annette) Arnold, all of Dubuque.  Also left to cherish her memory are her Grandchildren; Sara (Scott), Beth (Justin), Nick (Kate), and Zach (Katie). 7 Step Grandchildren, 9 Great Grandchildren, and 12 Step-Great Grandchildren. Along with a brother-in-law, Milton (Onalee) Arnold of Marion, IA, Cousins, and valued friends.

A special thank you, for the kind care by Dr. Kirkendall, caring and compassionate staff at Ennoble Skilled Nursing and Rehab Center, Finley Hospital, Hospice of Dubuque, and Dr. Allen Meurer.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to: Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Finley Health Foundation, Ennoble Skilled Nursing and Rehab Center or Hospice of Dubuque.
