Anita L. Skahill, 87, of Dubuque, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 16th at Mercy Medical Center.
The funeral mass will be on Monday, February 20th at 10:00 a.m. at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Dubuque, with Rev. Steven Rosonke officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Cascade, Iowa. Visitation will be from 2-5 p.m. on Sunday, February 19th at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Rd, where a wake service will be held at 4:30 p.m.
Anita Lois Hingtgen was born on December 27, 1929 in Bellevue, IA, the daughter of Ted and Anna (Kramer) Hingtgen. She attended St. Mary's grade school in Dubuque and graduated in
1947 from Dubuque Senior High School. Anita married her beloved husband of 61 years, Robert L. Skahill, on May 30, 1955 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Dubuque.
Anita worked in the office of JC Penney for eight years, then stayed home to care for their children. She was a volunteer at Holy Ghost School while her four children were in attendance
there. She also worked for the Sisters of Charity, BVM Center at Mount Carmel for eight years.
Anita relished time with her children and grandchildren, especially when the family gathered for special occasions. Her children remember her as a loving, generous, and fun-loving Mother
who provided all she could for her family, while encouraging them to live good lives and be successful in the pursuit of their goals.
She loved reading, water walking, golf, and time spent with her many friends. She delighted everyone with her baked goods and spent endless hours playing cards and board games with
each of her grandchildren. Attending the sporting events of her children and grandchildren was a highlight of her life.
Anita is survived by her loving husband and four devoted children: Michael (Sandra) Skahill of Asbury, IA and their children Shaun (Amber) Skahill of Omaha, NE and Erin Skahill of
Indianapolis, IN; Susanne (Tom) Henson of Marion, IA and their children Lauren (Jeff) Aleshire of Mission Woods, KS and Luke Henson of Dillon, CO; Mark (Rebecca) Skahill of Dubuque, IA
and their children Wesley Skahill of Menominee, MI, Madalyn (Ben) James of West Des Moines, IA, Owen and Cathryn Skahill of Dubuque, IA; and, Sara (Denis) Schaefer of Grimes, IA and their children Corey Schaefer of Chicago, IL and Joseph Schaefer of Grimes, IA. She is also survived by her sister, Carol (Ken) Neuwohner of Geneseo, IL and many nieces and nephews.
Anita was preceded in death by her parents, Ted and Anna Hingtgen and three brothers Harvey Hingtgen and his wife Geneva, Eugene Hingtgen and his wife Mary, and Don Hingtgen.
