Cordiadell "Corky" T. Tucker

December 21, 2017

Cordiadell “Corky” T. (Althaus) Tucker, 83, of Asbury, passed away on December 21, 2017, at Stonehill Care Center following a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, December 27, 2017, at the Church of the Resurrection, with Rev. Joseph Hauer officiating. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Relatives and friends of Corky may call from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, December 26, 2017, at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road where a wake service will be at 6:30 p.m.

Corky was born April 23, 1934, in Dubuque, the daughter of Claudia (Haase) and Maynard Althaus. She graduated from St. Columbkille High School in 1952. Following graduation, she worked at Hartig Drug as well as at the offices of Drs. Straub and Moeller before marrying and becoming a full-time mother.

Corky was united in marriage to Robert J. Tucker on November 28, 1964, at St. Columbkille Catholic Church; they later divorced but remained lifelong friends.

Faith and family meant everything to Corky, and she was very involved in the lives of her children and grandchildren. She supported their interests in every way possible, from attending concerts and sporting events to volunteering in the schools and organized club activities. Corky’s love for children extended far beyond that of her own family when she opened her doors and heart to provide a nurturing and loving in-home daycare environment. She grew close to these families and remained in touch with many of them for years to come. Her laughter was infectious, and she was known for her mischievous sense of humor.

Corky enjoyed reading, crocheting, fishing, watching birds at the feeder as well as going to local symphony and theater performances. She was an avid and enthusiastic traveler who visited many of the national parks, cruised through Alaska, Hawaii, and the Caribbean plus made frequent trips to Walt Disney World. She loved puzzles and games of all kinds, from euchre and rummy to small electronic handhelds, and followed the Iowa Hawkeyes and Green Bay Packers. An incredible cook, Corky operated a catering company with her close friend, Bev Hall.

Corky is survived by three daughters: Jean Tucker, of Asbury; Tammy (Joel) Gehling, of Dubuque; and Barbara Tucker, of Asbury; and a son, Marc (Denise) Tucker, of Marengo, Iowa. Corky has five grandchildren: Madison, Emily, and Elizabeth Gehling, Jacob (Jessica) Freemyer, and Kaylie (Anthony) Fogle, as well as two great-grandchildren, Dallas Freemyer and Gabriel Fogle. She is also survived by a brother, Dale (Reta) Althaus of Ankeny, and four nephews.

Corky was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Donita Althaus, brothers Gene Althaus and Larry Althaus, and Robert Tucker, the father of her children.

The family would like to extend its sincerest gratitude to Stonehill Care Center for its loving care of Corky these last four and a half years. The staff were her extended family and enriched her life in so many ways and brought her much joy and happiness.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Stonehill Care Center, 3485 Windsor Avenue, Dubuque.
