Daniel D. Boge, 82, joined his beloved Mil on Tuesday, December 12, 2017.

Funeral mass will be at 12:00 p.m. Saturday, December 16th, 2017 St. Columbkille’s Catholic Church with Rev. Gabriel Anderson officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until time of mass Saturday at the church. Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, Dubuque, Iowa is handling arrangements.

Dan was born in Dubuque, IA on April 5, 1935. His mother and father, Cyril & Isabel (Hanten) Boge, raised him on a farm in North Buena Vista.

From his first marriage to Donna Strong, he has 5 children: Diane (John) Boleyn, Cynthia Erickson, Kim Boge (fiancé Martin Eisenberg), Joan (Dennis) Holmes, and Amy Jo Moore. He also has 7 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

From his second marriage to Mildred Atkinson, he has 6 step children: Lynn (Randy) Bullard, Jim (Mary) Pregler, Tom Pregler, Jodie (Ralph) Darrow, Deb Kreiss, and Jude Andresen. He also has 13 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. He also fosters a child from Columbia through contributions.

He is also survived by his siblings, Darlene Hantelmann, Loras Boge, Joanne Haywood, Samantha “Blondie” Boge, Geraldine “Geri” Vesely, Deborah Husted, and Steven Boge.

Dan has had a colorful life of jobs and business ventures. Along his journey, he attended ROTC Loras Academy; in which he was a member of the National Guard for 14 years, was a U.S. mail contractor for many years, owned the first self-service gas station in Iowa, owned a bar, was an over the road truck driver for 47 years; during which time he was also part owner of a trucking company, and owned a laundromat and properties.

He continued owning, building, trading, renting, and managing real estate during his retirement.

Dan was a lifetime NRA member, he was also a member of the American Legion, Home Builders Association, and the Landlords Association.

As a lifetime Republican, he gave numerous donations. He also gave to many charities, including The Dubuque Humane Society and Camp Courageous.

Dan was a trooper in surviving his progressive cancers for 18 years.

Dan would like to thank Dr. Hermann, Dr. Ronald Schope, Dr. Victoria Famuyide, Dr. Heiar, Dr. Salas, and Dr. Dolehide for their extra care and for adding four extra years to his life. Also, thank you to Hospice of Dubuque.

Dan left this world and will rejoin many family members and friends that have gone before him.

He will be very sadly missed by his family and friends, including his longtime friends at Arby’s: Dick Heller, Galen & Anna Mae Smith, Gary, and Kim.
