David L. Lambert

David L. Lambert, 82, of Dubuque passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Friday, September 29, 2017 at Stonehill Care Center in Dubuque.

A funeral mass will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 3rd, 2017 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Key West with Rev. Rodney Allers officiating. Entombment will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery with military honors by Dubuque Marine Corps League.  Family and friends may visit after 9:00 a.m. at the church until the time of funeral mass. Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, Dubuque, Iowa is assisting the family.

David was born on December 30, 1934 in Dubuque, Iowa the son of Frank and Flora (Kieler) Lambert. He married Shirley Weber on September 15, 1956 at Nativity Church in Dubuque and together celebrated 59 years of marriage together. He served in the US Navy from 1957 to 1959 on the USS English.

He worked for the former Dubuque Packing company for over 45 years.

David was a member of the Iowa State Beekeepers Association, Dubuque County Master Gardeners and the Elks Lodge.

He was most comfortable in the outdoors, passing on his love for hunting, trapping, fishing, gardening, beekeeping, making maple syrup, growing Christmas Trees, cutting fire wood and harvesting walnuts.

David is survived by his children, Vicki (Don) Brandell, Mike (Chris) Lambert, Jeff (Nancy) Lambert, and Dave (Carol) Lambert. Twelve grandchildren, Ryan, Alyson, John, Joe, Jeana, Megan, Joshua, Angela, Garrett, Ethan, Andy, and Kayla . Two great grandchildren, Myles and Marcos. Two sisters, Sr. Eleanor Joann Lambert, OSF, and Mary (John) Brehm; one brother Terry (Roberta) Lambert; and sister-in-law Hazel Lambert.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Shirley; and three brothers Jerry, Jim and Danny.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to St. Joseph Church Key West.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Stonehill Care Center, Hospice of Dubuque and to all their family and friends for their care, kindness and love.
