Delrose Mary O'Meara Obituary

Delrose Mary O’Meara, 77 passed away on February 13, 2019 at Unity Point Health, Finley Hospital.

Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 16th, 2019 at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road with Rev. Richard Kuhn officiating. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, February 15th, 2019 at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory.

Delrose was born on August 1, 1941 in Dubuque the daughter of Anthony and Ida (Kramer) Schemmel.  She grew up in Durango and was one of 13 children in one of the most fun-loving families you could ever meet.  The stunts they all pulled would keep you laughing for hours and Delrose loved to laugh.

In 1961 she married John “Pete” O’Meara who was truly her other half. The two of them could actually finish each other’s sentences and were the sparkle in each other’s eyes until Pete passed away in 2003.  They were a couple that were not only best friends but made others feel good by being around them.

Delrose was a homemaker and raised two great sons in John and Joe, they were her pride and joy.  There was no better sound than listening to the three of them tell you about their lives, the Volkswagen Bug she drove, the donkey they had, the “camping” trip they took in their pickup, or just simply everyday things that they experienced with each other.  She also had a son James who she lost at birth.  Delrose is holding him now and telling him stories of all of his brother’s experiences.

Some people called Delrose “Bear”, which fit her, she was a round cuddly package, but she had a strong-willed side and she did what she wanted to do in life.  Playing cards, or her horse game, playing bingo or watching her new 50-inch tv were things that just made her day.

Delrose’s legacy will live on in her grandchildren, and she loved to hear about their latest adventures and watch them grow.  She always asked about them and what they were up to.

Those left behind to smile about the memories that she created are her sons, John (Ronda) O’Meara and Joe (Dawne) O’Meara; her grandchildren, Shannan (Andy) Noonan, Steve (Ashley) OMeara, Josh (Alice) Habel and Monica (Bart) Sitarski; her great grandchildren, Emma, Kale, Macy, & Drew Noonan, Shae & Zoey OMeara, Charlie & Edith Habel, and Sophia & Lukas Sitarski. Her brothers and sisters, Elsie Payton, Don “Pops” (Diane) Schemmel, CoraLee (Fred) Schaumburg, Chuck (Sharon) Schemmel, Tony (Laura) Schemmel, Joe (Diane) Schemmel, Joyce Ann Tigges (Don Jaeger), Bob (Cindy) Schemmel; sisters-in-law Marge Schemmel and Millie Schemmel. And a whole gang of nieces and nephews that entertained her every time she got together with them, she truly loved her families.

She was preceded in death by her parents Anthony and Ida Schemmel; her son James in infancy; her sister Lois Gruel and her husband Bob; Her brothers Wayne, Jim & Rick “Huck’ and his wife Carol Schemmel. Her brother-in-law Bob O’Meara and his wife Joyce and Jim Payton. Her father and mother in law John and Marie O’Meara and Leonard Shaw.

We will miss you Mom but are so happy that you and Dad are back together again—watch over us until we see you again.
