Donald J. Fischer

Donald J. Fischer, 80, of Dubuque, Iowa passed away on October 5th, 2018 at Manor Care. Don was born on June 29th, 1938 in Dubuque, IA the son of LaVern and Lucille (Mai) Fischer and is an Army National Guard Veteran.

According to his wishes no public services will be held. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery. He is survived by his four children, Shelly Berger, Terry Fischer, Tom Fischer, Christy Cole; his mother Lucille Sutter, a sister Janet Tonnesen and a brother Dale Fischer. He was preceded in death by his father LaVern.

The family would like to thank Manor Care and Hospice of Dubuque for all their wonderful care they gave to Don. Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road is assisting the family.

Don left us with this message before he passed:

I want all of my family, relation and many friends to know that I will miss them very much. You are all people with whom I have lived with, worked with, or played with over my many years.

I have been so fortunate to meet and make so many friends, be it through the business or pleasure world. I have been able to travel and make friends both home and abroad. I certainly feel I have been blessed by having such a wonderful family, relation and friends.

I am one who has enjoyed life to the fullest, from the farm where I was born and raised, to the city of Dubuque where my journey has now been completed. I have been so blessed by being able to do and enjoy so many things in life that so many other people only wish they had the opportunity to have done. I hope everyone will realize how good life can be and make the most of it while they can.

I want to thank each and every one of you for your love, friendship and understanding. Now that I have moved on I would like to remind everyone for the last time of my favorite saying, "onward, forward, and never backward."
