Doris Ann Leonard, 93, of Dubuque, Iowa passed peacefully on September 15, 2017 at Stonehill Skilled Care Unit.
According to Doris’ wishes her body was donated to the University of Iowa School of Medicine. Memorial services will be at a later date with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road Dubuque, Iowa is in charge of arrangements.
Doris was born on July 22, 1924 in Dubuque, Iowa the daughter of Henry and Minnie (Hohenadel) Freund.
She married Merlin G. Leonard on November 29, 1947 at Holy Ghost Church in Dubuque. To their union six children were born: John, Joan, Jan, Jean Joleen, and Jim. Merlin preceded her in death on October 6, 1977.
She attended Holy Ghost elementary school and was the very first to receive her GED Certificate in Dubuque.
She worked at the Battery Factory, Dubuque Stamping Factory, American Optical, and she lastly managed Dubuque Uniform Company.
Doris loved her special time with family; she enjoyed to watch her birds and squirrels, playing cards and traveling the country.
Doris was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
She is survived by her children, Joan, Jan, Jean (Bret), Joleen, and Jim (Nancy); six grandchildren; four great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her son John; sisters, Jeannette Rolling, and Muriel Young; brothers, Richard Freund and John Freund.
The family wishes to thank Joleen and Jan for taking care of mom; to the staff at Finley Hospital, and Stonehill Skilled Nursing for all their wonderful care and kindness they gave.
Memorials may be given to the American Heart Association or the Parkinson’s Association.
