Edwin O. Klaas

Edwin O. “Ed” Klaas, 91, of Dubuque, Iowa passed away on April 1st, 2018 at Unity Point Health, Finley Hospital.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, April 6th, at St. Raphael Cathedral with Msgr. Thomas Toale officiating. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery, with military honors accorded by American Legion Post #6. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, April 5th, 2018 at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road, where there will be a wake service at 7:00 p.m.

Ed was born on February 6, 1927 in Dubuque, Iowa the son of Paul and Ida (Schroeder) Klaas. He married Patricia Thoma on October 20, 1956 at St. Donatus Catholic Church.

He is a United States Army Air Force Veteran. He farmed and worked at John Deere in Dubuque until his retirement.

He was a member of the American Legion Post #6, and the UAW Local 94. He was an active member in the parish and the choir of Immaculate Conception Church in Kieler, St. Mary’s Dubuque and lastly at the Cathedral.

He enjoyed square dancing and spending time with his family. He could be found checking up on the farm daily.

He is survived by his wife Patricia; two sons Joseph (Jodi) Klaas and Kenneth Klaas; his son-in-law Randy Smith; grandchildren, Jami (Dave), Josh (Loni), Victoria, Nate, Sawyer, and Savanna. His great grandchildren Justin, Ashlee, Skyler, Libbie, Bryson and Elise. One sister Ethel Schroeder and one brother Phil Klaas.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter Pam; brothers Oscar and Paul; sisters Dorothy, Mary and Edith.
