Eileen M. Meyer, 62, of Dubuque, Iowa passed away on February 21st, 2017 at Luther Manor surrounded by family after a courageous fight with Alzheimer’s Disease.

Funeral mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, February 27th, 2017 at St. Columbkille Catholic Church with Rev. Paul Lippstock officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Sunday, February 26th, 2017 at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road, where a prayer service will be held at 5:30 p.m.

Eileen was born on April 13, 1954 in Dubuque, Iowa the daughter of Leo and Doris (Ertel) O’Neill. She graduated from Wahlert High School in 1972 and attended NICC in 1973. She married John J. Meyer on October 27th, 1984 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Dubuque.

She worked for JCPenney’s in Dubuque for 22 years and 6 years for the Dubuque Community School District.

Eileen enjoyed walking with her husband on Heritage Trail, Mines of Spain and Swiss Valley Park. She loved to grow flowers and vegetables in her garden, especially tomatoes. She has a passion for arts and crafts, especially her holiday ceramics. Lastly, she enjoyed vacations with her family, which included Colorado, South Dakota and Wyoming.

She is survived by her husband John; three children, Jennifer Meyer and Sara Meyer both of Dubuque, and Patrick Meyer, of North Liberty, Iowa. Her mother Doris O’Neill, of Dubuque; siblings, Terry (Nancy) O’Neill, of Denver, CO, Jane (David) Vilbrandt, of Janesville, WI, Peggy Howard, of Dubuque, Kevin (Kathy) O’Neill, of Seattle, WA, Mary Kershner, of Denver, CO, and Rick O’Neill, of Dubuque; her sister-in-law, Julianne (Tom) Billman, of La Crosse, WI; brother-in-law, David Meyer, of Boone, Iowa. Along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her father Leo; mother and father-in-law Jerome and Bernice Meyer; brothers-in-law Stephen Howard and Bryan Kershner.

Memorials may be given to the Alzheimer’s Association or Hospice of Dubuque.

The family would like to thank Dr. Mark Runde and staff, Dr. Yasyn Lee and staff, Hospice of Dubuque, and Luther Manor staff for all their wonderful care and compassion they gave to Eileen.
