Elizabeth V. “Betty” Meyer, 97, of Dubuque, Iowa passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 4th, 2018 at Stonehill Care Center.
Funeral mass will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Spirit Parish, Holy Ghost Church with Rev. Dwayne Thoman officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday, January 8th, 2018 at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road where a wake service will be at 6:30 p.m.
She was born on October 27, 1920 in Dubuque, Iowa the daughter of J. Raymond and Lucile (Voelker) Dettman. She graduated from Dubuque Senior High School in 1938. On December 4, 1945 she married Robert Paul Meyer at St. Patrick’s Church Rectory in Dubuque.
In her early years Betty worked as a secretary for the Adams Company, and then as a Guidance Secretary for Dubuque Senior High School for 17 years retiring in 1984.
Betty was a member of Holy Ghost Catholic Church.
Betty is survived by her two children, Robert “Bob” (Linda) Meyer and Cathy Tieskoetter both of Dubuque. Four grandchildren, Amy (Jeff) Osterberger, Bobby Meyer, Angie (Brian) Berntgen all of Dubuque and Eric (Heather) Tieskoetter, of Livingston, TX. Nine great grandchildren, Kaylee & Ellie Osterberger, Zoie, Brylie, and Ryker Tieskoetter, Bode, Hank, Isla, and Evie Berntgen. Sister-in-law Betty Hansen and brother-in-law Neil Ransford; along with several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Robert; her sister Altha “Ginger” Raisbeck; brothers-in-law, William Raisbeck, Carl Meyer, and Donald Meyer. Sisters-in-law Edith Kirkwood, Marion Burdt, Dorothy Dubyak and Darlene Ransford.
The family would like to thank Dr. Andrea Ries and her staff and to the nurses and staff at Stonehill Care Center for all their wonderful care, kindness and compassion they gave to Betty.
In lieu of flowers a Betty V. Meyer memorial fund will be established.
