Frederick P. “Fred” Schuster, 62 of Bellevue died January 11, 2018 at home surrounded by family.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, January 16, 2018 at Saint Joseph Key West. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday, January 15, 2018 at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road where wake service will be held at 6:45 p.m. Burial will take place at Mount Olivet Cemetery at a later date.
Fred was born January 8, 1956 in Dubuque Iowa, son of Elmer and Margaret Schuster. Fred grew up on his family farm in Placid, Iowa (currently Timberline Golf Course). He had many stories to share about his youth, fondly remembering events of his childhood. Fred attended school in Farley, Iowa, and graduated from Western Dubuque High School in 1974.
Fred married Linda Berthel on June 7, 1980. Together, they raised three children in Peosta, Iowa. He was a father with endless patience and love. Along with instilling strong values in his children, he shared his quirky sense of humor and embraced the lighter side of life. After a divorce, Fred married Laura Norton on January 11, 2002. Together, they enjoyed spending time with close friends. They enjoyed lots of laughter and enjoying camping, NASCAR, watching the Minnesota Vikings, the Iowa Hawkeyes and other favorite activities.
Fred was the proprietor of Schuster Drywall where he was recognized for high-quality workmanship. He took great pride in his work. Fred was also a great teacher in passing this trade along to the many people he employed over the years. He not only took pride in his work, but also valued the connections he formed with other contractors and customers over the years.
Surviving are his wife, Laura Schuster; children, Amanda (Jeff) Schuster-Davis, Angela Schuster, Adam Schuster; step-children, Brittney Norton, and Shaun Norton; siblings, Donald (Judy) Schuster of Dubuque, IA, Anna Mae (William) Hoeffer of Marion, IA, Dale (Sharon) Schuster of Camdenton, MO, Larry Schuster of Sterling, IL; 3 grandchildren, Ella and Carson Davis, and Deklan Norton; 12 nieces and nephews; and his loyal maltese, Stan-Lee.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Margaret (Greenwood) Schuster; his siblings, David Schuster, Joseph Schuster, James Schuster, and Linda Boll.
In lieu of flowers, A Frederick Paul Schuster Memorial Fund has been established.
The family wishes to thank Hospice of Dubuque for all the loving care they provided Fred over the past 13 months.
