Gary Alan Heer, 56, of Dubuque, Iowa passed away on February 8, 2017 at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics, surrounded by his loving family after a short illness.
Visitation will be from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Sunday, February 12th, 2017 at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road where services will be held at 4:00 p.m. with Sr. Margaret Anne Kramer, PBVM, officiating.
Gary was born on September 21, 1960 in Dubuque, Iowa the son of Leo and Marie (Reuter) Heer.
He married Dawn DeMoss on June 17, 1983 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Dubuque.
Gary worked for Robert's River Rides in Dubuque until their closing. He then worked at Sweeney's Super Club in Sageville, as a bartender, and Midwest Cash and Carry until their closing. He was currently working for Milprint in Lancaster, WI.
Gary was a generous man who was always willing to lend a helping hand and listen to others. He enjoyed to cook and grill for family gatherings, enjoyed spending time at home chatting with neighbors and friends in the driveway and tipping a few back. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who enjoyed spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife Dawn; two children, Dan (fiance Heather) Heer, and Hannah Heer; grandchildren, Colton, Taylor, Payton, Easton and Sydney; his mother-in-law Judy Miller, all of Dubuque and her family.
He was preceded in death by parents; two sisters Rose Miller and Mary Morse; and his father-in-law Ron DeMoss,; and Dawn's grandparents Ray “Ball Ball” and Dorothy “Dot” Ziel.
The family request no flowers, a Gary Heer memorial fund will be established.
The family wishes to thank the medical team, especially Jenn at Unity Point Health, Finley Hospital and Lilly at MICU at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinic for all their wonderful care and kindness they gave to Gary and his family.
