George H. Banworth, 86 of Dubuque, Iowa passed away on Monday January 19, 2015 at Unity Point Health, Finley Hospital.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 12:00 p.m. Saturday January 24th, 2015 at the Church of the Nativity with Rev. Gabriel Anderson officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Family and friends may gather after 9:00 a.m. Saturday January 24th at the Church of the Nativity until time of funeral mass. Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road is in charge of arrangements.
George was born on January 7, 1929 in Sherrill, Iowa the son of John and Clara (Jungblut) Banwarth.
George worked at the former Dubuque Packing Company before starting in the furniture business in 1956. He owned and operated Banworth and Udelhoven Furniture Store for many years with his business partner Hap Udelhoven.
He was a member of Power of Prayer, and had a very special devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary. He was a member of St. Columbkille Catholic Church and also attended daily early morning Mass at the Church of the Nativity
He is survived by his sisters-in-law Peggy Banwarth and Virginia Banwarth, many nieces and nephews and a special friend Charlotte Chambers.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Joseph, Alvin (Armella), Harold, Francis and Charles, and his sister Mary (Ray) Herbst.
In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established.
The family wishes to thank Stonehill Care Center and their staff along with all the health care professionals especially, Dr. Garrett Ridgley, Dr. Charles Longo and Dr. Patel Pinalkumar for all the kindness and care they gave to George.
