George T. Swan, 62 of Dubuque, Iowa passed away on Sunday evening, October 16th, 2016 at home surrounded by his family.

Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 19th at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road with Rev. Dianne Grace officiating. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p. m. Tuesday, October 18th, 2016 at the funeral home. Family and friends may also gather after 9:00 a.m. Wednesday until time of service. Private family burial will be at a later date.

George was born on May 14, 1954, in Dubuque, Iowa the son of Lincoln and Geraldine (Birkett) Swan. He married Luellen M. Leytem on August 23, 1975.

He worked for K-Mart in Dubuque for 27 years, Strang Construction, and lastly for Dittmer Recycling until 2014.

He was a Green Bay Packer Fan, Chicago Cubs fan and avid NASCAR fan. He enjoyed to golf, attend the races, play pool, and his occasional stops to the Casino. But most of all he loved to spend time with his family especially his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife Luellen, two sons Lincoln Swan of Dubuque, and Lucas (Joy) Swan of Dubuque, two grandchildren Gavin and Aliah. His brother David Swan of Peosta. His brothers and sisters-in-law; Mary Kay Leytem, Bill Leytem, of Dubuque, Ann Wortley, of Rockford, IL, Jani (Garth) Tomkins, of Asbury, John (Lois) Leytem, Jr., Joe (Maureen) Leytem, of Asbury, Connie Kemp, of Mesa, Arizona, Madonna (Roger) Sopha, of Arlington, WI, Sue (Bill) Davis, of Durango, IA, Lynn (Dick) Koos, of Peosta along with numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, mother and father-in-law John and Lenore Leytem and brothers-in-law Loras Kemp and Michael Leytem.

The family wishes to thank Hospice of Dubuque especially Amy and Jennifer; Dr. Christian Schultheis and the nurses and staff of the oncology department at Medical Associates for all their loving care and compassion they gave to George.

In lieu of flowers a George T. Swan memorial fund has been established.
