Gerald W. Manderscheid, 74 of Maquoketa and formerly of Zwingle died Friday, August 21, 2015, at Genesis West Medical Center in Davenport, Iowa.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 28, 2015 at Saint Joseph Catholic Church, Key West with Rev. Michael Podhajsky officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery with military honors by the United States Army and the Dubuque Marine Corps League. Family and friends may gather after 9:00 a.m. Friday at the church until time of funeral mass. The Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Rd is in charge of arrangements.
Gerald was born on August 8, 1941, in Maquoketa, the son of Orville and Marie (Ryan) Manderscheid. He was in the last graduating class at Loras Academy, and served in the US Army. Gerald farmed in the Sylvia Switch area for many years. His catholic faith was a big part of his life being a member at Saint Theresa’s and Assumption Sylvia Switch churches.
Gerald played Prairie League ball for many years and was a member of the Zwingle Recreation Association.
He is survived by his sister Carol (Gary) Ernst, of Dubuque, four brothers Eldon (Judy) Manderscheid, of Zwingle, Roger (Judy) Manderscheid, of Antioch, IL, Duane (Mary) Manderscheid, of Vadnais Heights, MN, and Glenn (Anne) Manderscheid, of Newhall, IA, twelve nieces and nephews and many great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Ardis Cobar on June 2, 2015.
