Ivadell “Ivy” Brehm 78 formerly of 9919 Cottingham Road Peosta passed away at 2:45 am Tuesday February 21, 2017 at Stonehill Care Center.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 25th, 2017 at Holy Family Church, New Melleray with Rev. Rodney Allers Officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, February 24th, 2017 Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory 2595 Rockdale Road.
Ivadell "Ivy" Marie Brehm was born November 22, 1938, the daughter of Jerry and Adele (Schlosser) Burns. She grew up on a farm in the Bernard area. On September 9, 1958 she married William Brehm. Together they farmed and raised their six sons near Peosta.
Ivy was very active in the community, from participation with the Western Dubuque Bobcat Marching Band Bandparents to the Dubuque County Democrat Party, which honored her in 2013 by inducting her into their Hall of Fame. Ivy was very proud of the several years she served as the first woman on the Western Dubuque School Board.
Ivy is survived by sons, Merlin (Sharon) of Savanna, Illinois, Patrick (Sheila) of Dubuque, Philip (Kay) of Footville, Wisconsin, Cletus (Annette) of Zwingle, Lyle (Jenny) of Dysart, her 19 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, and her brother Terry (Pam) Burns, of Bernard.
She is preceded in death by her husband Bill, her son Alvin, and her parents.
