James L. “Jim” Chapman, 80 of Key West, Iowa passed away on Thursday, May 19th, 2016 at home with family by his side.

Funeral mass will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday, May 23rd, 2016 at St. Raphael Cathedral with Msgr. Thomas Toale officiating. Entombment will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery Chapel Mausoleum with full military detail by the American Legion Post #6. Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Sunday, May 22nd, at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road where a wake service will be held at 2:00 p.m.

Jim was born on April 4, 1936 in Beetown, Wisconsin the son of Lester and Ramona (Mink) Chapman. He served in the Iowa National Guard and married Shirley Langkamp on June 2, 1956 at St. Raphael Cathedral. He worked for Flexsteel for 39 years retiring in 1996. After retirement Jim worked for the Sisters of the Presentation for 13 years.

Jim enjoyed ice fishing, squirrel hunting and riding his motorcycle, but most of all his greatest love was his family and being able to spend time with his wife, children and grandchildren. He loved to putter around in his basement workshop and garage. Jim was always available to help anyone at any time.

Jim is survived by his wife Shirley of almost 60 years, two daughters Kris Chapman and Terri (Douglas) Kluesner, both of Dubuque. Five grandchildren, Nicholas and Michael Mulert and Justin, Jena, and Aaron Kluesner. Siblings, Bonnie Chant and Jeffery Chapman. Two sisters-in-law, Darlene Chapman and Darlene Langkamp; three brothers-in-law, Harold (Maria) Langkamp, Arnold “Arnie” Langkamp and Thomas Piehl along with many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Lester and Ramona; mother and father-in-law Clarence and Emma Langkamp; brother, Gary & brothers-in-law Leonard and Merlin Langkamp, and sisters-in-law Beverly Piehl and Delores Langkamp.  

In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to Hospice of Dubuque, Stonehill Care Center or St. Raphael Cathedral.

The family would like to thank Stonehill Rehab and Skilled nursing staff, Dr. Mark Runde and his nurse Julie and to Hospice of Dubuque especially Amy and Ryan for all their wonderful care and kindness they gave to Jim and his family.
