James A. Krausman, 90, of Dubuque, passed away Sunday, May 8, 2016 at home.

Private family burial with military detail by the Dubuque Marine Corps League will be held at Dubuque Memorial Gardens. According to his wishes no public visitation or service will be held.

James was born July 6, 1925, in Melborne, Iowa, son of Ethel (Hite) and Albert Krausman, He graduated from Waterloo West High School in 1943 and entered the Army Air Corp shortly after graduation where he served as a nose gunner on a B-24 Bomber during World War II from 1943 till 1946. He married Beverly June Halleck in December of 1946.

He started working for the John Deere Dubuque Works on August 12, 1947 and retired after 35 years on October 31, 1982 as a Division Engineer in Incentive and Standards.

James enjoyed bowling, golfing and trap shooting in the John Deere Leagues, he was an avid hunter and snowmobiler. He took many snowmobile trips to Wisconsin and Michigan with family and friends. He loved motorcycles and always enjoyed the trips to Colorado every fall to dirt bike up in the mountains with his dad, brother, sons, nephews and friends. He rode his motorcycle until he was 76 years old. He took time to take his sons to area race tracks in the summer for stock car races.

He spent every weekend in the summer boating on the Mississippi River with his family and friends with numerous trips north on the Mississippi to La Crosse, WI and Stillwater, MN as well as summer trips to Lake Okoboji in Iowa and Lake Geneva in Wisconsin. His stories of the eight trips he made from Dubuque to Florida and back by boat will be remembered by all of us. He spent the last six years wintering in Ft Myers, Florida.

He was a great man who was respected and admired by everyone he met for his wisdom, his knowledge, his charisma and most of all his character and his wiliness to find a win/win solution to every problem or situation.

Those left to cherish Jim's life are his seven children, Jill Pryor, of Carlsbad CA, Brad (Cathy) Krausman, Greg (Charlene Dolphin) Krausman, Rod Krausman, Jim (Terri) Krausman, all of Dubuque, Kim (Steve) Scott of Cincinnati, OH, and Mark Krausman, of Elkhorn WI, 14 grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, 9 step great grandchildren, sister-in-law Joann Krausman, of Lancaster, WI, and a very special friend and companion Marian Strayer.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his former wife, Beverly Krausman, his brother Richard Krausman, son-in-law, Ned Pryor, daughter-in-law Lynn Krausman.

The family wishes to thank Hospice of Dubuque for all their wonderful care and kindness they gave to James.
