James N. “Jim” Majerus, 89 of Dubuque, Iowa passed away on Tuesday, February 7th, 2017 at home surrounded by his loving family.
Funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 11th, 2017 at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road with Rev. Donald Bakewell officiating. Committal prayers and military honors by the Dubuque Marine Corps League will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery. Family and friends may gather after 10:00 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home until time of service.
Jim was born on January 4, 1928 in Dubuque the son of John and Elizabeth (Reise) Majerus. He served in the United States Army Air Force from 1946 to 1952.
He retired from Washington Jr. High School as Head Custodian in 1989.
After retirement Jim enjoyed working with his hands, woodworking and just tinkering around. His pride was his family, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and attending their events.
He is survived by his former wife and good friend, Jeanann, of Dubuque; two sons; daughter Julie (Willie) Frye, of Dubuque; grandchildren, Jim (Jessica), Rachel (Carter), Chris, Blake, Brandon (Alisha) Jeremy, Jennifer, and Jackson. Great grandchildren, Bentley, Mason and Rogan. Extended family, Sue (Vern) Pedelty, of Mason City, Iowa; Jim and (Ann) of South Carolina, and Kathy of California and their families; and his faithful companion “Snickers”
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his faithful companions “Hank”, “Barney” and “Lucky”.
In Lieu of flowers a memorial fund will be established.
The family would like to thank Dr. Mark Hermann and his staff, Hospice of Dubuque, especially Betsy, Nicole, Ryan, Jessica and Jan; Faith and Family especially, Molly for all their wonderful care they gave.
