Jean (Houselog) Smith, 74 of Dubuque, died Sunday, January 18, 2015 at Dubuque Nursing and Rehab Center.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 21, 2015 at Saint Raphael Cathedral with Msgr. Thomas Toale officiating. Entombment will follow at Mount Olivet in Saint Joseph’s Chapel Mausoleum. Friends may call from 3 to 7 Tuesday January 20th at the Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road with a parish wake service at 3 pm.
Jean was born on July 6, 1940, in Dubuque the daughter of Norbert and Callista (Kenneally) Houselog. She married Roger Smith and worked full time raising her family. She also worked at Eagle Foods and as a bartender and cook for several Dubuque businesses.
Jean loved to sing and spend time with people sharing stories, playing bingo and cards.
She is survived by her 3 sons Keith Smith, Kyle (Barbie) Smith and Kevin (Teresa) Smith all of Dubuque, Seven grandchildren Tricia, Jessica, Kyle Jr., Samantha, Tabitha, Erika, and Ryan, a great grandchild Caiden. Her Brother Robert “Bob” (Gert) Houselog, and sisters-in-law Edna Houselog, Theresa Houselog, Lois Houselog, and Mary Adele Houselog. Many nieces and nephews including Barb (Jay) Hanson and Julie Schwendinger and family, and a special friend Ron Droessler.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and siblings Norbert “Butch” Houselog, Mary (Art) Balk, Bernice (John) Donahue, Ron Houselog, Art “Tee” (Betty) Houselog, Joe (Helen) Houselog, Merlin (Jane) Houselog, Gerald (Joan) Houselog, and Wayne Houselog.
The family wishes to thank all the physicians who cared for Jean especially Dr. Diane Sorenson, Hospice of Dubuque, and Dubuque Nursing & Rehab, for all their wonder care.
