Jeanette A. Papenthien 90, of Dubuque, Iowa passed away on Monday, November 28, 2016 at Luther Manor
Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 Wednesday, November 30th, 2016 at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road, where services will be at 6:00 p.m. with Deacon Jim Schmidt officiating. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery.
Jeanette was born March 5, 1926 to Anna and Hubert Grutz, of Dubuque, Iowa.
After high school, Jeanette followed her older brother Herman and sister Lorraine out to California and worked for Hughes Aircraft as an executive secretary. She returned to Dubuque and married Edwin Papenthien in 1955.
She and Ed traveled extensively throughout the United States, and were married for 45 years before he preceded her in death in 2000.
Jeanette always loved the holidays and was known as a wonderful baker & confectioner. When Christmas neared, she would begin making the many candies, cookies and fruit cake that were her specialty. At the holidays, she and her family would visit with and deliver boxes of her homemade candies and cookies to relatives and friends.
She herself enjoyed tennis, bowling; and many lively games of euchre, 500 and bridge.
She is survived by her daughters: Ann Gale, Colorado Springs, Co; Lynn (Roger) Vogt, Dubuque, IA; Janis Rochford, Coto de Caza, CA, son, Brian Papenthien, Dubuque, IA, eight grandchildren and one great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers Herman and Lloyd, and a sister Lorraine.
