Jeffrey John “Jeff” Burdt, 60 of Dubuque, Iowa passed away on January 15, 2017 at home surrounded by his loving family.
Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, January 19th, 2017 at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road with Deacon Bill Biver officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 18th, at the funeral home.
Jeff was born on December 7, 1956 in Dubuque, Iowa the son of James and Mary (Goff) Burdt Sr. He married Victoria Lynn Schmit in 1975.
He worked for Dubuque Tank Terminal and for Newt Marine and for the last 18 years was employed by Selco.
He enjoyed coaching baseball and worked with his sons teams from 1988 to 1992; he later helped his neighbor coach the Blue Jays.
Jeff’s children and grandchildren were the light of his life and if you ever had a project, Jeff would be the first to help out.
He is survived by his wife Vickie; two children, Jonathan (Jenny) Burdt and Jessica (Scott) Young. Grandchildren, Nolan and Brooklyn Burdt and Dylan and Jackson Young. Three sisters Anne Smith, Jeanne (Jim) Chowning, and Mary (Robert) McNally. Two brothers, James (Sue) Burdt Jr., and Thomas (Ellen) Burdt. His father-in-law Raymond Schmit; two brothers-in-law Richard Schmit and Tim (Georgia) Schmit; sister-in-law Kathy (Gordon) Dailey, along with many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his son Jeremiah Burdt, on Aug 13, 1992; his parents Jim and Mary; and his mother-in-law Henni Schmit.
The family politely request no flowers. A Jeffrey Burdt memorial fund will be established.
The family would like to thank all the health care professionals especially Dr. Mark Hermann and his staff and to Hospice of Dubuque especially Allison, Jennie S., Tim, Edna and Betsy for all their wonderful care and compassion they gave to Jeff.
