Joan K. (Hutter) Blasen, 79 of Dubuque, IA passed away on Friday, February 27, 2015, surrounded by her loving Husband and Family.
Joan graduated from St. Columbkille’s Catholic High School in 1954, and married Joseph Blasen on Oct. 1, 1955. She was a devoted wife and mother.
Family and friends may gather from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, March 6th at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road where there will be a wake service at 3:00 p.m. A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 7, 2015, at St. Columbkille Catholic Church with Rev. Gabriel Anderson officiating. Burial will take place at Mount Olivet Cemetery.
Joan is survived by her husband Joe Blasen, and seven children, Gary (Alice) Blasen, of Marion, IA, Julie (George) Sharkey, of Casper, WY, Joe (Carol) Blasen, of Dubuque, IA, Rick (Judy) Blasen, of Dubuque, IA, Greg (Jaime) Blasen, of Cedar Rapids, IA, Jay (Julie) Blasen, of Dubuque, IA and Chris (Kristen) Blasen of Leawood, KS. Fifteen grandchildren, Brook and Stacie Blasen, Jessica and Shawn Sharkey, Josh (Cindy) Blasen, April (Casey) Buol, Benjy Klostermann (Allison Krook), Whitney Blasen, Natalie Blasen, Cade, Coby and Cohen Blasen.
Eight great-grandchildren: Hannah Blasen, Jaylinn and Jasmine Sharkey, Carter Kronfeldt, Aubrina Buol, Nathan and Joey Blasen, and Mia Blasen.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents, Louis & Alice Hutter, four sisters, Doris Hartman, Rita Chapman, Lorna Baumhover, Lois Hooten, and a brother, Richard Hutter, her great granddaughter Makayla Blasen-Boleyn, and survived by sister-in-law Izzy Hutter.
The family would like to thank Stonehill Franciscan Services for the compassionate care they have given her throughout the past 6 years, as well Dr. Matthew Kirkendall, and his Nurse Kate.
In lieu of flowers, memorials should be made to Stonehill Franciscan Services, or Hospice of Dubuque.
