Joan Eileen LuGrain 83 of Dubuque passed away Thursday April 9, 2015 at Mercy Medical Center surrounded by her loving family.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 15, 2015 at Holy Spirit Parish, Holy Trinity Catholic Church, with Fr. Kyle Digmann officiating. Burial will follow at Linwood Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 8 Tuesday April 14, 2015 at The Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road with a parish wake service at 7:30 p.m.
Joan was born on March 26, 1932 in Dubuque the daughter of John and Irene (Kirkpatrick) Fransen. She married Carl M. LuGrain at Holy Trinity Church on June 26, 1954 and he preceded her in death in 1996.
Joan worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant at Stonehill Care Center. She was a loyal member of the Moose Lodge, an avid Chicago Cubs fan, and loved to play cards, shuffle board and go bowling.
She is survived by her 8 children, Steve (Lana) LuGrain, Kirk (Marcia) LuGrain, Carla (Steve) Vandenberg, John LuGrain, Carl “Fred” (Kim Noel) LuGrain, Alan LuGrain, Jolene Blume, and Joe (Jessica Colson) LuGrain, 21 grandchildren, and 18 great grandchildren. 2 sisters Jackie (Larry) Danbom, and Kay (Gene) Zasada, a brother Gerry (Sharon) Fransen, and a sister-in-law Mary Fransen.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents, John & Irene her husband Carl, a daughter Robbie, and 3 brothers James, William and Karl Fransen.
In lieu of flowers a Joan E. LuGrain memorial fund has been established.
The family of Joan would like to thank the staff of Mercy Medical Center and Joan’s dear friend Tina Kopp for all their loving care, compassion and friendship.
