Joanne C. "Jo"  Moldt, age 81, of Dubuque, Iowa, was called home peacefully on Thursday, October 6th, 2016 at Stonehill Care Center surrounded by her loving family.

To honor Joanne's life, funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 11th, 2016 at Holy Spirit Parish, Holy Trinity Church. Burial will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery. To celebrate Jo's life, family and friends may visit from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday, October 10th, 2016 at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road.

Joanne was born on October 29, 1934, in Dubuque, Iowa, daughter of Evelyn Hohaus. Joanne grew up in Dubuque where she met the love of her life, Harold, and they married April 14, 1956. They were blessed with 38 wonderful years together and 5 loving daughters. Harold was called home ahead of his love Joanne, much too early in 1994. Joanne dedicated her life to raising and loving her girls. When Joanne had free time she enjoyed golfing and winning many tournaments at the Dubuque Golf & Country Club and Lacoma. She also enjoyed playing softball, as the best pitcher, with her girls at WRA. She was a lifelong member of Holy Trinity Parish where she led the Alter & Rosary Society for many years.

Jo was incredibly loved by her family and friends. In her younger years Joanne worked at the Disc, where she nurtured her love for music and singing. Not a day went by that Joanne didn't sing a song. Her girls grew up with their mother singing in the kitchen daily. She was known at Stonehill for knowing every word to any song. Many aides at Stonehill came to ask for a song and a sing along. She said in the last few years that she couldn't sing as well as she once had. She spoke daily about walking again; we know she has joined her true love, Harold again and they are dancing as she sings; as she is now free of her disease for eternity.

Those left to cherish Joanne's memory include her 4 daughters, Deb (Roger) Goetzinger, Dubuque, IA, Pam (John) Gartner, Dubuque, IA, Kim (John) Gourley, Saukville, WI, Cindy (Joe) Culbertson, Dubuque, IA; her 10 grandchildren, Katie (Andrew) Glanz, Dyersville, IA, Charlie (Rachel) Goetzinger, North Liberty, IA, Derek Gartner, Iowa City, IA, Nicole (Nicholas) Konrardy, Bellevue, IA, Jason, Alia and Jacob Gourley, Saukville, WI, Max Moldt, Dubuque, IA, Adam (Kelsey) Shortley, Huxley, IA, Emilee Culbertson, Dubuque, IA; her 2 great-grandsons Gannon Goetzinger, Rhett Shortley, and arriving soon, Kipton Konrardy; her sister, Mary Jean (Paul) Leibold, East Dubuque, IL; her brother Kenny (Sue) Hohaus, Dubuque, IA; her brother-in-law, Ed (Alice) Moldt, Fuquay Varina, NC; her sister-in-law, Shirley Moldt, Davenport, IA. Her family extended way beyond blood and there were many who called her "Ma".

She was preceded in death by her mother; her loving husband, Harold Moldt, Jr; a daughter Sheila Lynch; a brother Ernie, and father and mother in law Harold Sr and Kathryn Moldt, and
brother in law Jim Moldt.

A Joanne Moldt memorial fund has been established, which will be distributed among her favorite charities.

The family would like to give a heartfelt thanks to the staff of the 3rd floor household at Stonehill Care Center, her loving aids, nurses, cooks, coordinators, social workers and Katie G. and Sara at Hospice, for their devotional care, love and support of mom and our family during this difficult time.
