  John R. Friedman, 62 of Dubuque died Friday, August 21, 2015 at Manor Care following a second courageous battle with cancer.


  Graveside services will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 25, 2015 at Mount Olivet Cemetery Key West, with Rev. Diane Grace officiating. Full Military Honors by the Dubuque Marine Corps League will also be accorded. Friends may call from 3 to 7 Monday, August 24, 2015 at the Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory 2595 Rockdale Road.


  John was born on March 16, 1953 in Dubuque the son of Robert and Leona (Pierce) Friedman. He served in the U. S. Army during the end of the Vietnam War in Germany. While stationed in Germany he married Pauline Cherrington. He later married Karen Bries LuGrain.


  After his four year military service he returned to Dubuque and began a 38 year career as a brick mason, spending much of his career with Tom Francois Masonry. He was an avid fisherman and an active member of the Dubuque Bass Club. He was a wonderful father and he adored his grandchildren.


  Left to cherish his memory include his wife Karen Friedman, three children Phillip (Billie) Friedman, of Dubuque, Paula Friedman, of Denver, CO, Stephanie (Scott) Bechen, of Dubuque, their mother Pauline Cherrington, two grandchildren Lotus Friedman and Ty LuGrain, three step children Jamie (Jeremy) Fry, of Bend OR, Sarah and Rachel LuGrain, of Dubuque, and five siblings Robert (Barbara) Friedman, James (Donna) Friedman, of Dubuque, Donna (Dave) Thies, of Las Vegas, Donald (Lois) Friedman, of Dubuque, and Betty Donaldson, of Centerville, IA.
  He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Michael Friedman.


  The family would like to thank the staff at Mercy Hospital, Manor Care and Hospice of Dubuque for all the care and kindness they gave to John.
