John M. Lampers, 82 of Dubuque passed away Saturday, November 4, 2017 at home.

Funeral services will be at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 7, 2017 at the Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road. Family and friends may call from 1:00 p.m. until time of services Tuesday. Burial will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery with a ceremony by the Dubuque Fire Department Honor Guard and the reciting of the “Four Fives”

John was born on March 29, 1935 in a farmhouse in Peosta the son of Eugene and Susan (Bock) Lampers. He served in the U.S. Army for two years, spending 18 months of that time in Germany. He married Janice Miller on October 11, 1958 at Saint Raphael Cathedral sharing 59 years together. In their later years they loved to travel around the country in their motor home.

John was a firefighter with the City of Dubuque Fire Department for 31 years, and was a member of the Firefighters Association Local 353 and the Eagles Club. He loved to work in the Garden and was always proud of the tomatoes he grew.

Those left to honor his memory are his wife Janice; four children Debra Miller, Pam Silvertooth, Dawn Lampers, and Troy (Wendy) Lampers. Six grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and one great great grandchild,

He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Laura, a brother Francis and a sister Cecila Huckaba.

A John M. Lampers memorial fund has been established.

The family wishes to thank Hospice of Dubuque for all their care they gave.
