John B. “Hucker” McCoy, 84 of Dubuque, Iowa passed away on Tuesday, January 17th, 2017 at Mercy Medical Center.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday, January 23rd, 2017 at the Church of the Nativity with Msgr. James Miller officiating, a rosary will be said at 9:45a.m. at the church. Burial will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery with military honors by American Legion Post #6 and presentation of the 4 Fives by the Dubuque Fire Department. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Sunday, at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road where a wake service will be at 1:00 p.m.
John was born on February 24, 1932 in Dubuque, Iowa the son of Joseph and Frances McCoy. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War.
He was a fireman for the Dubuque Fire Department for 32 years retiring in 1992 as Captain. He was a member of the Dubuque Retired Firefighters.
John enjoyed his time at the Shot Tower where he had many friends.
He is survived by cousins; his good friends Tony and Erin Donovan and their son Aiden who he dearly loved.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
