John C. Neumeister

John C. Neumeister, 92, of Dubuque, Iowa passed away on Wednesday, November 1, 2017 at Luther Manor, surrounded by his loving family. 

A private service for the family was held at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road.

John was born on January 13, 1925 in Dubuque, Iowa the son of William and Amelia (Kleih) Neumeister. John graduated from Dubuque Senior High School in 1942. After graduation he entered the US. Army and proudly served his country during WWII. Following his time in the service John returned to Dubuque to run the family business, Neumeister’s Market. He took great pride in his business and was well known for the best steaks in town. In his later years he worked for Midwest Meats working faithfully until the age of 82.

He married Arlene Cords on May 13, 1951, at Westminster Presbyterian Church and together they had two beautiful daughters. 

John enjoyed gardening and loved to share his vegetables with his friends and neighbors.

John is survived by his wife Arlene; his children, Andrea Cabrera and Julie (Eric) Jansen; two grandchildren Jasper and Wesley Jansen. His sisters-in-law Ruth Potter and Juanita Marting.

John was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers Fred and William and his step sisters Ruth and Kathryn.

The family request no flowers, memorials may be given to 1st Congregational Church.
