Julie Marie (Steffen) Kutsch, 43, of Dubuque, Iowa passed away on August 18, 2016. Surrounded by family, Julie returned to the Lord after a courageous battle with cancer.

Funeral mass will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 24th, 2016 at Holy Spirit Parish, Holy Ghost Church with Rev. Dwayne Thoman officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 23rd, 2016 at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road where there will be a wake service at 3:00p.m.

Julie was born on October 5, 1972 in Dubuque, Iowa the daughter of Thomas and Constance (Engler) Steffen. She graduated from Dubuque Senior High School in 1991 and attended Capri College for cosmetology.

She married Alan Kutsch, on August 10, 1991 and later met the man that she would spend the rest of her life with, Scot Megonigle.

She worked for Payless Shoes as a manager and was most recently working at Unity Point Health, Finley Hospital as a Patient Care Tech.

She was a volunteer of Cub Scout Pack 50 and the Boy Scout Troop 11 which she was actively involved with for the past 13 years.

She enjoyed her hobby “Killing Time Crafts”, reading, doing crossword puzzles, spending time with her many nieces and nephews, going camping with family and watching her kids play and grow.

She is survived by her mother Connie Steffen, of Dubuque; husband Scot Megonigle, of Dubuque; daughter, Ashley (Fiancé Cameron Graff)  Kutsch, of Laurens, Iowa; sons Richard Megonigle, and Tyler Megonigle, both of Dubuque; step daughter, Ashley Kohnen, of Dubuque; siblings, Daniel (Tammy) Steffen, of Dubuque, Lynn (Scott) Burlage, of East Dubuque, and Laura (Jeff) Phelps, of Cedar Rapids; her mother-in-law, Sandra Megonigle, of Vermilion, Ohio; her former husband Alan Kutsch, of Dubuque; nieces and nephews: Zara, Michael, Marisa, Marty and Cameron along with her Godchildren: Beau and Alexandra.

She was preceded in death by her father Thomas Steffen; grandparents, Irvin & Mary Engler, Laurabelle “Betty” and Bernard Steffen and her cousin Michelle Arthofer.

In lieu of flowers a Julie Steffen memorial fund will be established.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Mark Herman, his nurse Sandy and their staff at the Grand River Medical Center, Hospice of Dubuque especially Traci, and the Oncology Department at University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics for all their wonderful care and kindness they gave to Julie.
