Karen Lee Bussan

Karen Lee Bussan, 54, of Dubuque, Iowa passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 6th, 2018 at Manor Care surrounded by her family. Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Sunday, December 9th, 2018 at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road. A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, December 10th, 2018 at the funeral home with Rev. Msgr. James Miller officiating. 

Karen was born on April 15th, 1964 in Dubuque the daughter of Earl and Janice (Manahl) Hantelmann. She graduated from Dubuque Senior High School and furthered her education for child care services. 

On December 3rd, 1983 she married Mark Bussan and together they shared 35 years of marriage. 

Karen was a registered childcare provider for 30 years and did an extraordinary job with every child she cared for. She loved to fish, watch her grandchildren, go to Bingo and certainly stayed in touch on the computer. Most of all she loved to spend time with her loving family who will miss her dearly. 

She is survived by her husband, Mark; two sons, Adam and Austin (Alicia) Bussan; and a daughter Ashley Bussan; 8 grandchildren, Allison, Ayden, Adam Jon "A.J.", Oaklee, Blake, Owen and Kaylee; brothers, Steve (Sally) Hantelmann, Gary (Amy) Hantelmann all of Dubuque, Ken (Sue) Hantelmann of Georgetown, TX, Kevin and Doug Hantelmann of Dubuque; sisters, Lisa (Jim) Smith of Dubuque and Sue (Mark) Piatt of Coon Rapids MN; her in-laws, Lynn (Dave) Bonjour of Menominee, WI, Cathy (Merrill) Henrichs and Shari (Alan) Wills all of Galena, IL, Bill (Deb) Bussan of Elizabeth, IL, Lori (Robert) Hessling of Hazel Green, WI, Jodi (Neil) Timmerman of Galena, IL, and Jeanne (Terry) Heller of East Dubuque, IL and many nieces, nephews other relatives and friends. 

Karen was preceded in death by her parents, Earl "Bub" and Janice Hantelmann; sisters, Linda Lyons and Nancy Reeg; father-in-law Cyril (June) Bussan and many aunts and uncles. 

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Finley Hospital, Hospice of Dubuque and the staff of Manor Care for all the care and kindness that Karen received.
