Kathleen M. Sendt

Kay was born on May, 12th 1941 in Dubuque, Iowa, daughter of Ervin and Dolores (Vondran) Mitchley.  Kay, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, entered into eternal peace surrounded by the ones she laughed with, lived for, and loved on Monday, April 6th at 1:00 p.m. at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics. 

Funeral mass will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 11th, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church with Rev. Steven Rosonke officiating. Burial will follow in East Dubuque Cemetery. Friends may call from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, April 10th at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road where there will be a wake service at 3:00 p.m.

She married Delbert Sendt on June 19, 1962 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in East Dubuque, Illinois.  Delbert and Kay shared together 53 wonderful years of marriage. 

Kay was an active parishioner of St Anthony Church where she served as Eucharist Minister and was a member of the prayer chain.  She was on the Board of Directors for the ARK Advocate.   For many years Kay was a member of the school board and Alter and Rosary Society for St. Mary’s in East Dubuque, Illinois and was a leader in the Girl Scouts.  Kay was employed at Cycare Systems for 25 years and St. Anthony’s Church and School for 18 years.   Kay enjoyed spending time with her husband, children, and grandchildren.  She especially looked forward to attending her grandchildren’s school events, sporting activities, plays, and concerts.  Kay and her family took many vacations together.   She relished her time with her family on camping trips and vacations to Utah, Nevada, and California to visit her brothers, aunts, and uncles. 

Kay is survived by her husband Delbert and her five children, Lemmie (Joe) Reiss of West Allis, Wisconsin, Dave Janie) Sendt, Dan (Missy) Sendt both of East Dubuque, Illinois, Mary (Don) Wendel of Le Claire Iowa, and Adam Sendt at home.  She has eight grandchildren, Jeremy (Suzy) and Alison Reiss, Jon and Tyler Sendt, Michael, and Matt Sendt, Andrew and Lucas Wendel.  She is survived by her sister Joan Mitchley, and three brothers Dale (Sue), Ervin Jr. (Janet), and Mark (Helen) Mitchley,  four sister-in-laws, Mary Margaret (Robert) Heim, Ellen (Paul) Largent, Marilyn and Charlene Sendt, many nieces and nephews, and her best friend Mary Lou Ricke.

Kay was preceded in death by her parents and a sister Dolores, father and mother-in-law Albert and Mary Sendt, two brother-in-laws Darrell and Dwayne Sendt.

In lieu of flowers, a Kay Sendt memorial fund has been established.
