LaVern John “Vern” Conrad age 79 of Dubuque died Saturday January 10, 2015 at Mercy Medical Center.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 Thursday January 15, 2015 at The Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory 2595 Rockdale Road. Burial will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery with military honors accorded by American Legion Post #6. Friends may call from 3 to 8 Wednesday January 14, 2015 at the funeral home.
Vern was born on July 18, 1935 in Dubuque the son of John and Hilda (Scherbring) Conrad. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Vern married Sandra Hall on December 30, 1998 in Galena,IL. He was a farmer in rural Epworth and cattle buyer in the tri-state area for many years.Vern will most be remembered for his boisterous voice, cherished times spent with his family and friends and rides in the country gladly sharing his vast knowledge of the area.
He is survived by wife Sandy, his children Cindy (Michael) Breitbach of Balltown, Steve (Karen) Conrad of Epworth, Laura (Chad Nichols) Connolly of Dubuque, Lynn (Steve) Burroughs of Dyersville, Allen Conrad of Davenport, June (Jon) Hardin of Luxemburg,Vern (Danielle Oberhoffer) Conrad of Dubuque, his step children, Misty (Eric) Puccio, Kim (Ryan Deckert) Spark, James (Tiffany) Spark, all of Dubuque, Kellie (Fred) Brenke of Epworth, and Ron Spark of Dubuque. Many loving grandchildren and great grandchildren. Verns siblings Joan (Clem) Hoefler, Bill (Darlene) Conrad, Dan (Jackie) Conrad, John Conrad, and Ron (Sandra) Conrad, and in-laws Bob (Judy Yost)Kramer, Hazel (Bill Cowsert) Lambert, Luetta (Jerry) Wolfinger, and Bill (Geri) Hall and his three beloved dogs:Foxy, Bernie and Marley.
He was preceded in death by his parents John and Hilda, Louise the mother of his eight children, a son Jeff, and siblings Mary Ann Kramer, Doris Davis, and Vince Conrad.
The family would especially like to thank Dr. Mark Runde as well as the nurses and staff at Mercy Hospital for there care, kindness and compassion while caring for Vern.
