LaVon M. Patzner

LaVon M. Patzner, age 85, of Potosi, passed away Thursday April 21st, 2016 at Atrium Post Acute Care in Lancaster, WI.

Funeral Mass will be held Thursday May 5th at 11:00 a.m. at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Tennyson, WI.  Burial will be in St. Andrews Catholic Cemetery.  Visitation will be at St. Andrew Catholic Church on Thursday May 5th from 9:00 a.m.- 11:00 a.m., followed by the Funeral Mass.  Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, Dubuque, Iowa is assisting the family.                       

LaVon Marie Patzner was born March 9th, 1931, daughter of Leo and Luella Speaker. She was raised in Mt. Ida, WI and attended Fennimore High School graduating in 1949.  She went to nurses training at St. Marys College in Madison, WI and after her graduation became a registered nurse (RN).

She worked as an RN at Lancaster Memorial Hospital, now called the Grant Regional Health Center, for 35 years and over the years she worked in every department in the hospital.

 She married James Patzner on Sept. 5th, 1953 at St. Marys Church in Fennimore.  They lived in the Tennyson/Potosi area and were married for 61 years.

After they retired Jim and LaVon purchased a Winnebago motor home.  For 20 years they spent their winters in South Texas which they both thoroughly enjoyed.

LaVon enjoyed quilting, sewing, crossword puzzles and needlework.  She was an avid paperback reader and also enjoyed playing cards.  She did not like losing at Euchre one bit.

She made a bed quilt for every one of her grandchildren which she gave to them when they got married.

LaVon is survived by her 5 children, Bill (Marsha) Patzner of Holmen, WI, Barbara (David) Peden of Seattle, WA, John (Jeannie) Patzner of Inverness, FL, Jerry (Jill) Patzner of DeForest, WI and Mary Jo Patzner of Madison, WI and grandchildren  Andrea (Christopher) Kelly, Erica (Matthew) Eastlick,  Kyle (Jennifer) Patzner, Mark (Rachel) Peden, Patrick Peden, Sarah Patzner, Randy Patzner, Nicholas Patzner, Marshall Patzner, Claire Patzner, Carson Patzner and great grandchildren Gracie Eastlick , Halle Eastlick and baby Eastlick due in July,  two brothers, Marshall (Nancy) Speaker from Ft. Worth, Texas and Mark (Sue) Speaker from Sparks, Nevada,  one Brother-in-Law, Paul Wolfe Sr. of Lancaster, WI and one Sister-in-Law, Jean Speaker of Sarona, WI.

She was preceded in death by her husband James Patzner who passed away May 29th, 2015,  her parents, Leo and Luella Speaker, two brothers, Hugo (Beverly) Speaker, Warren (Jean) Speaker and one Sister, Donna (Paul) Wolfe.

The family wishes to extend special thanks to Dr. Stader and the staff at the Grant Regional Health Center and the Atrium Post Care Acute Center, both in Lancaster.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the St Andrew and Thomas Catholic School, Potosi WI.
