Lawrence A. “Larry” Weber, 71, of Dubuque and formerly of Cascade, passed away peacefully from a brief illness on Sunday, August 30th at Finley Hospital in Dubuque.
Visitation will be held at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road in Dubuque, Iowa on Thursday, September 3rd from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be at 12:00 p.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Peosta, Iowa on Friday, September 4th with Rev. Michael Schueller officiating. Family and friends may also gather from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the church on Friday. A memorial luncheon will be held immediately following the funeral mass at Thunder Hills Country Club in Peosta. A private family burial will be taking place at a later date.
Larry was born on May 6th, 1944 in Cascade, Iowa to Vernon Weber and Lillian (Schlemme) Weber. School years were spent in Cascade attending Aquin Catholic Schools, graduating in 1963.
Larry spent over 40 years working in the furniture business in both sales and management, most recently with Leath Furniture and Slumberland. In his retirement years, he worked part time at Anderson-Weber.
He most enjoyed spending time with his family and friends on many of the local golf courses. His fondest memories were from the time he spent raising his family at Thunder Hills Country Club. For over twenty years, an annual highlight was his friends’ trip to Phoenix for warm weather, golf and good times. From time to time, he also enjoyed a few hands of video poker. In recent years, spending time with his grandsons also brought a great deal of happiness to his life and was very excited for the arrival of his next grand-child this December.
He is survived by his two children, Libbie (Weber) Bettis and Pete Weber, a son-in-law Kenneth Bettis, a daughter-in-law Penelope (Spiroplaus) Weber, and his grandsons Evan Weber, Tate Bettis and Colin Bettis. He is also survived by his sisters, Arlene (Nick) Durian, Jane (Jerry) Landes, Laverne “Flute” (Jean) Weber, Ronald “Doc” (Karen) Weber and Dennis (Karla) Weber and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Vern and Lillian Weber.
