I knew "Mort" Shaw (the name he went by at Wentworth Jr. College) for about 15 years. He was a
fun friend to be with. I was a member (Satirist Laureate) in a small organization that he originated back then. I also visited him and his mother in Marshalltown in the early 1960s. After about 1972 or so, I lost track of him. I tried to keep in touch, but he had a grievance with Wentworth because of a dictionary he created that led to the stripping of his newspaper editor position. Since I became editor, I suspect that he felt there was a connection.
He was unique and quite intelligence. And he did not hide his emotions about life's vicissitudes.
I know people change, but I missed the rapport we had built.

I also knew him as “Mort”.My association with him and Richard Renz , was a godsend when I was a stranger in a strange land far from home. Those are some cherished memories on my journey. May you rest in peace Mort. Thank you Don Jones

I knew Leslie as "Mort". We met in 1970 when he was in Edinburgh and we corresponded for many years and were only able to meet infrequently. I remember him with affection and treasure the organ piece that he dedicated to our friendship. I also remember his love of all things Scottish and I am glad that I was able to send him his favourite shortbread and oatcakes. With his passing a light has gone out but his music and friendhip still glows strong in my memory.
