Margaret M. “Margie” Welsh, age 94 formerly of 10672 Lake Eleanor Road, Key West passed away on Wednesday March 18, 2015 at Bethany Home.

Family and friends may gather from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 21st at St. Joseph Church, Key West where funeral mass will be held at 11:00a.m. with Rev. Michael Podhajsky officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Olivet cemetery.  Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Rd is assisting the family.

Margie was born on October 20, 1920 in DeKalb, IL. The daughter of James Joseph and Mary Ellen (Mullane) Callan. She was born into a family of twelve children, 6 brothers and 6 sisters. She married Glenn H. Welsh of Zwingle, IA on September 30th, 1944 in St. Joan of Arc church, Lisle, IL. Glen passed away on, November 27, 1989. 

She worked at Hempsted High School and Table Mound School with the Dubuque Community School Lunch program until her retirement. Was a long time member of Saint Joseph church, Key West and enjoyed doing activities at Mt. Carmel with friends and sisters of the Blessed Virgin Mary, which included water Aerobics, and Tai Chi.  Margaret was a very good seamstress and enjoyed tending to her apples tress and gardening.

She is survived by her three sons, James Welsh, of Cupertino, CA, William (Jody) Welsh, of Dubuque, IA, and Joseph (Joy) Welsh, of Overland Park, KS, nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Her sister, Betty (Stanley) Balcer, of Wisconsin,  and brothers Tommy (Barbara) Callan and Peter (Pat) Callan, both of Florida.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Glen, brothers;  Jack (Marie) Callan, Leo (June) Callan, Billy (Jean) Callan, and Joe (Jeanie) Callan, sisters; Mary (John) Paul, Catherine (Tom) Vernard, Patsy (Larry) Hampel, and Alice (Don) Conner.  

In Lieu of flowers a Margaret Welsh memorial fund has been established.

The family wishes to thank Hospice of Dubuque, The Finley Hospital doctors, nurses and staff and to the staff of Bethany Home for all their wonderful care and kindness they gave to Margie.
