Marion Bailey Ryan

Marion Bailey Ryan passed away on October 13, 2016. She was born July 09, 1921, to Lucy (Murphy) and Clyde Bailey, in Flint, Michigan. She graduated from Flint Northern High School and Flint Junior College. From 1944-46, she was a hostess for Capital Airlines. While based in Milwaukee, she met Leo LeRoy (Lee) Ryan, who worked for Northwest Airlines. They married in 1946 and raised their three daughters in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin.

During her life Marion also worked as a bank teller, secretary, and switchboard operator.

She served many years as a Girl Scout troop leader and was active in the Milwaukee Chapter of Clipped Wings, an organization for former United Airlines flight attendants. She was a talented seamstress and cake decorator, and was active in her churches in the Milwaukee area and then at Arbor Oaks Bible Chapel after she moved to Dubuque in 2006.

Marion is survived by daughters Tracey Rush (John) of Dubuque and Mary Lee Ryan of Milwaukee; her grandchildren Christopher (Amy) Rush of Newport News, VA, Timothy Rush of Milwaukee, and Megan (Matthew) Weber of Shawano, WI; and great-grandchildren Julia and Ethan Rush, and Jeremiah, Jenilee, and Coryanne Weber. She is further survived by several nieces and nephews and other relatives.

She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, daughter Sally Gruber, son-in-law Jim Gruber, brother James Bailey and sister Beverly Fisher.

Visitation will be held 4:30-7:00pm on November 22 at Arbor Oaks Bible Chapel, 2843 JFK Road in Dubuque, followed by a Celebration of Life at 7. Memorials may be sent in Marion’s memory to the Northeast Iowa School of Music scholarship fund 2728 Asbury Rd, Suite 200, Dubuque IA 52001, or to Shawano Baptist Church, 710 E. Green Bay Street, Shawano WI, 54166.

The family would like to thank the staff of Sunset Park Place for their loving care of Marion, and to the many friends who visited with her and watched over her during her final weeks.
