Martha J. Smith, 50 of Dubuque, Iowa passed away on Tuesday, June 21, 2016 at home surrounded by family after a courageous battle with Breast Cancer.
Funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road with Rev. Gabriel Anderson officiating. Burial will follow in Linwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, June 23rd at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory.
Martha was born on September 15, 1965 in Dubuque, Iowa the daughter of Robert and Harriet (Haggerty) Runde.
After high school Martha found work at Carlisle Communications where she stayed for many years. In her later years she worked at Sam's Club where she enjoyed interacting with many frequent customers as well as co-workers. In her free time she enjoyed baking, camping, riding her bike and driving wherever the road took her. Martha took immense pride in talking about her kids, and always went out of her way to provide as much love and support to them as she could; they were her pride and joy.
She is survived by her two children, Shane Smith, and Taylor Smith, both of Dubuque; her mother Harriet Runde, of Dubuque; siblings, Debbie (Roger) Denlinger, and Steve Runde, of Dubuque, Peggy (Don) Robertson, of Cuba City, WI, Karen (Roger) McClain, Beverly (Dale) Mueller, Laura (Roger) Bushman, and Cheryl (John) Tigges, all of Dubuque; her companion and friend John Kluesner, of Dubuque; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father Robert “Bob” Runde on December 14, 2011, a brother Dennis, sister-in-law Dawn Runde, and nieces Morgan Mueller, and Laura Robertson.
In lieu of flowers a Martha Smith memorial fund has been established.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Mark Hermann and his staff especially his nurse Sandy, all of Martha’s friends and co-workers for all their care and kindness they gave; and a very special thank you to her mother Harriet for all her loving care.
