Mary Jo Hammel, 52 of Dubuque, Iowa passed away on Friday, June 10th, 2016 at home with family by her side.

 Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 14th at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, with Intern Pastor Dave Raemisch officiating. Family and friends may gather after 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at the church until time of service. Burial will be at a later date in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday, June 13th at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road.

 Mary Jo was born on July 25, 1963 in Dubuque, Iowa the daughter of John T. and Ethel (Bowden) Hammel.

 She enjoyed to participate with the farmers market, Bruisers Football, Breast Cancer benefits, Rendezvous, Summers Last Blast, Osborne Heritage Days and Circle Bridges Out Of Poverty.

 Mary enjoyed spending time with her grandkids, camping, making homemade meats and jellies, baking, embroidering towels, collecting Mary Moo Moo’s, hog roast, getting together with family, bingo, going to the casino and event planning.

She had a strong sense of humor, was very caring and loved to give advice.  

 She is survived by her soulmate Bill Harry; two children, Amanda Lebbie and Anthony (Amanda Hemmer) Hammel; grandchildren, John, Jahiem, Ava, Taveon, Nevaeh, Jase, and Landon. Her mother Ethel Hammel; siblings, Kenneth Hammel, Gary (Tami) Hammel, Karen (Mike) Blatz, Beth (Bud) Weydert, John (Tami) Hammel, Lisa Eubanks, Sharon (Terry) McAllister. Her Godchildren, Tiffany Eubanks and Abreana Clarke; members of the Harry family, Jim (Laini) Harry, Earl (Connie McDonald) Harry, Patty Blunk, Laurie (Chris Clarke) Harry, Merville (Jolene) Harry, Sylvia (Richard) Smith, Diane (Lester) LaPage, Ella (Rich) Harry, John (Deb) Harry, and Dan (Connie) Harry, along with many nieces and nephews.

 She was preceded in death by her father John, granddaughter Gabriella, her in-law’s John and Doris Harry, brother-in-law Jeffery Harry and niece Ravon Harry.

 The family wishes to thank Dr. Mark Hermann, his nurse Jackie and their staff and to Hospice of Dubuque especially Amy B. for all their wonderful care they gave to Mary Jo.

 In lieu of flowers a Mary Jo Hammel memorial fund has been established in care of Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory.
