Welcome to the memorial page for

Mary Ann Steil

December 13, 2014

Mary Ann "Minnie" Steil, 72, of Dubuque IA was called home on December 13, 2014.

A celebration of her life will be at 7:00 p.m. Monday, December 15th, 2014 at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road with Pastor Dennis Schmitt officiating. Family and friends may gather after 3:00p.m. Monday at the funeral home until time of service.

Mary Ann was born to Leo & Leona (Schroeder) Dolter on November 18, 1942 in Dubuque. She married Norm Steil on January 22, 1966 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church and together they loved and raised three daughters.

Minnie never met a stranger and will eternally hold a very special place in many lives & hearts. She was very outgoing, energetic and not often without a smile. Minnie was always there with a hand to lend, helpful hints to make your life easier and a wealth of useful and not so useful information. Mom was an inspiration to her daughters and a unique woman and role model who they will forever cherish. Minnie and Norm, through the thick and thin shared a deep love and it was that love that got them through when it mattered most.

She was a collector of many things that she thought someone, someday, could put to use. Mom enjoyed gardening, loved flowers, plants, yard art and anything that lit up or played music. Minnie loved gadgets and had something that could do nearly anything. She loved traveling and road trips and was always the one with the maps, guides and info so you didn't miss something special along the way. She always went above & beyond to make every occasion just a bit more special.

She received great enjoyment at the theatre, symphony and musicals. She loved parades, fireworks, sunsets, farmers market and Christmas lights. Minnie never met a dog who didn't love her (maybe it was the treats in her purse) and was a great dog mom to many of the little "monkeys" over the years. She was an avid bowler, loved fishing and was a fantastic cook who loved trying new & unique items. While Dad is a meat & potatoes kind of guy she was over the top with experimenting with new recipes, exciting flavors and loved condiments. Playing cards was a favorite past time of hers. Mom went above and beyond for her girls and each of them knew they were loved unconditionally. She enjoyed her lunch break visits from her son in law Jeff. Minnie was extremely proud of her grandson Kyle (Dude), she was an absolutely wonderful grandma and they shared many, many special times as he grew up.

Mary Ann left behind her husband, Norm, her daughters Sheila (Jeff) Vandermillen, Lisa
(Tim) Mueller, of Dubuque and Sandy Steil, of Coralville, and her grandson Kyle Chase of Dubuque. Also surviving are her sisters Carol Karlin, Donna (Jim) Hirsch, Ruth (Roger) Konrardy and brother Dick (Barb) Dolter, several in-laws and many nieces and nephews.

“Don’t worry about it Mom…we will be OK”

The family wishes to thank the crew at Fire Station 2, the good Samaritan, and the Medical Staff at mercy for all their efforts support and comfort.
