Matilda M. Beadle

Matilda "Tillie" M. Beadle, 89, of Dubuque, formerly from Galena, Illinois, died Thursday December 11, at Mill Valley Care Center, Bellevue.  

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, December 15, at St. Joseph Church, Key West; with Rev. Michael J. Podhajsky officiating.  Friends may call after 9:00 a.m. monday at the church until time of services.  Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Key West.  Leonard Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.

Matilda was born November 10, 1925, in Dubuque, Iowa, daughter of Nicholas and Matilda (Freiburger) Weber.  She was a member of St. Joseph, Key West.  She attended grade school in Key West and lived most of her childhood years there. She graduated top in her class at St. Columbkille High School in 1943.  

She married her best friend, David A. Beadle, of Galena, Illinois, on January 14, 1948 at St. Raphael Cathedral, Dubuque.  

Tillie and Dave farmed together in rural Galena together for 38 years, while raising their three children.  In addition to farming, Tillie worked outside the home as manager of Gordon’s Toggery of Dubuque for many years, retiring in 1985.  She especially enjoyed dancing, traveling, and playing cards with many family and friends.  She and Dave traveled to all 50 states, with Las Vegas being among their favorite vacation spots.  In more recent years, they built a new home south of Dubuque, near New Melleray Abbey, to be close to their daughter and her family.      

Tillie is survived by her children Cathy (Fritz) White of Dubuque, Gary (Robin) of Chicago and her grandchildren, Krista, Hans, Jordon and Elissa.

Also surviving are two sisters, Ione Smith of East Moline, Illinois, Marcella Konzen of Dubuque, a brother, Bill Weber of Dubuque and many nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dave; parents, Nicholas and Matilda; son Dennis; sister, Rosie Schmidt; and brother, Nick Weber.

In lieu of flowers, Matilda Beadle Memorial Fund has been established.

In the past year, Tillie was blessed with the kindness and loving care of the staff of Mill Valley Care Center, Bellevue, Dr. Honorio Caceres, Dr. Preeti Joseph and Mr. Bob Sudmeier.  The family extends to all of them a heartfelt thank you.
