Melinda M. (Mercer) Blok, 78, of Dubuque, Iowa passed away on Tuesday, August 16, 2016 at Unity Point Health, Finley Hospital.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, August 20th at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road. Family and friends may visit after 9:00 a.m. Saturday until time of service at 1:00 p.m.
Melinda was born on June 18, 1938 in Beloit, Wisconsin; the daughter of Kenneth “Moco” and Helen (Ervin) Mercer. She graduated from Dubuque Senior High School in 1956 and attended Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa.
She married William Blok on January 3, 1959 and he preceded her in death on July 3, 1999.
She worked at Finley Hospital in Dubuque for many years as an Operating Room Technician.
Melinda is a former member of the Tri-State Saddle Club and Table Mound PTA.
She is survived by her daughter, Michelle Blok and son, Mike (Jan) Blok, both of Dubuque; two step grandchildren, Derek (Sarah) Paulson of Dubuque and Bryan (Jana) Paulson, of Larchwood, Iowa; her “seven dwarfs” great grandchildren, Claire, Audrey, Caleb, Autumn, Kennedy, Koby, and Kalen Paulson. Her brother Mike (Pam) Mercer of Bond Oregon; three nieces and one nephew.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband William; along with her many pets especially “Bear” and “Panda”.
The family wishes to thank Abby and Kelsey at Unity Point Health, Finley Hospital ICU for all their compassionate care.
