Mrs. Elsie Unsen

Mrs. Elsie Unsen, of Dubuque went to be with her family in heaven on March 4, 2018 at the age of 100 with family by her side.

Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, March 8th, 2018 at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road where a service will be held at 6:45 p.m. Burial will be at a later date in Mount Olivet Cemetery.

She was born in South Dakota to Andrew and Elizabeth Puetz and she was the 8th of 9 children. She moved to Dubuque on her own at the age of 18 in 1935. In 1940 she married Raymond Unsen and they had 7 children.

She worked in the food industry most of her life. Some of the places were Dubuque County Home, Luther Manor, Finley Hospital and John Deere's. She semi-retired in 1980 and went to work at Mario's for 12 years retiring fully at the age of 75.

She loved to play cards and going out to eat with family and friends and gambling with her daughter on Thursdays.

She is survived by her children, Sharon Frommelt, Richard (Diana) Unsen, Beverly De Mesquita, Darlene Unsen, Paula Unsen all of Dubuque and Denny (fiancé Barb) of Colorado. 10 grandkids, 17 great-grandkids and 14 great-great grandkids and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by an infant son; her husband; her parents; sisters and brothers and her granddaughter Dawn.

She was very well loved and will be greatly missed.
