Nancy Ann Forler 48 of Phoenix, Arizona and formerly of Dubuque passed away on August 13, 2016 from injuries sustained in a one vehicle accident that occurred while she was walking near her home in Phoenix, Arizona.
Nancy was born on April 16, 1968 in Madison, Wisconsin. She grew up in Dubuque, Iowa and attended Dubuque Senior High School and later Hempstead High School where she graduated in 1986. Nancy received Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Education from Dowling College, Long Island, New York and Phoenix University, Phoenix, Arizona respectively. She was pursuing her PhD in Education while also working as a Special Education and English teacher at Maryvale High School in Phoenix at the time of her death. She also previously taught in Long Island and Brooklyn, New York.
Nancy was a devout Christian, wonderful daughter, sister and friend to many people. She was a strong, independent woman who lived life on her own terms. Nancy very much loved children and her life’s pursuit was spent caring for and educating children. She was brilliant intellectually and an avid reader and lifelong learner. Nancy enjoyed fitness activities, in particular 5k races that supported the Humane Society and efforts against breast cancer.
She is survived by her mother and step-father, Patricia and Paul Kramer of Dubuque; sister Carleen Forler of Stuttgart, Germany; three brothers, Dan and wife Dawyna of Davenport, IA, Shawn and wife Carole of Canton, GA, and Glen Kramer of Waverly, IA; one nephew, Jacob Forler of Davenport, IA and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
She is preceded in death by grandparents William and Marion Wallace and Walter and Celeste Kramer.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Friday September 16, 2016 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Key West. Friends may call from 4 to 8 pm Thursday September 15, 2016 at the Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory 2595 Rockdale Road. Memorial gifts in Nancy's memory will be given to the special education program at Maryvale High School in Phoenix.
