Patricia J. (Jochum) Schumacher

Patricia J. (Jochum) Schumacher, 83, of Dubuque, Iowa passed away on June 9th, 2019 at home.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, June 13th, 2019 at Holy Spirit Parish, Holy Trinity Church with Rev. Dwayne Thoman officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 12th, 2019 at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road where a wake service will be at 3:00 p.m.

 Patricia was born on July 21, 1935 in Dubuque, Iowa; the daughter of Francis and Leona (Maiers) Jochum. She attended St. Mary’s Grade School and Immaculate Conception Academy. On July 24, 1954, she married David A. Schumacher at Holy Trinity Catholic Church.

She was a member of the Women’s Recreation Association Volleyball League, Senior Mixed Bowling League, and a long-time member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church.

She worked as an in-home day care provider, but most importantly she was a loving homemaker. She enjoyed going to her kids and grandkids activities. She loved reading, crocheting, doing puzzles, and especially enjoyed playing cards and games with her family and friends. She was a caring, faith filled, loving woman who welcomed all into her home.

Patricia was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who loved spending time with her family.

She is survived by her sons Peter Schumacher and Dan Schumacher both of Dubuque, Paul (Kelly Mayne) Schumacher, of Peosta; daughters, Sharon (Lance) Hoefflin, of Austin, MN, and Beth (Tom) Potts, of Peoria, IL. Grandchildren Daniel (Heather) Schumacher, Jason Schumacher, Sara Schumacher, Hope Schumacher, Jenna (Jeff) Gobin, Troy (Rachelle) Hoefflin, Luke Hoefflin, Gabriel Schumacher, Brandon Potts, and Morgan Potts; great grandchildren, Alex, Ashley, Alyssa, Wyatt, Aleahia, Addlynn, Aria, Aason, Connor, Caleb and Hudson. Also surviving are her sister Carole Thul, brother Gary (Donna) Jochum, sister-in-law DeLee Jochum, brother-in-law Francis (Ethel) Schumacher and many nieces and nephews.

Patricia is preceded in death by her husband and her daughter-in-law, Mary Beth; her parents; brothers, Kenneth (Caroline) Neely, Robert (Lynn), Wayne, and Donald Jochum as an infant; sisters, Mary (Bill) Fransen, Jeanne (Jerry) Meyer, Dorothy (Lyle) Reed, Leone (George) Reed, and Joan Wagner; brothers-in-law David Thul, Walter (Catherine) Schumacher, Erwin (Micky) Schumacher, Joseph (Vera) Schumacher, Charles (Bernice) Schumacher and Louis Schumacher at birth. Sisters-in-law Sally (Nick) Pauly, Marian (Bob) Frederick, Doris (Frank) Hanten, and Sr. Mary Irma Schumacher, OSF, along with several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to Hospice of Dubuque or Holy Trinity Catholic Church.

The family would like to thank Hospice of Dubuque, especially Jeanette, Jenny and Heather, for their kindness and all the wonderful care they gave to Pat.
