Richard "Dick" A. Kohl, 55 of Dubuque, passed away May 18, 2017, with his family gathered around him!
Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 23rd, 2017 at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road with Rev. Dianne Grace officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday, May 22, 2017 at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory.
Dick was born December 26, 1961, the son of James P. & Janet E. (Beresford) Kohl in Dubuque, the 6th child in a family of 8.
He was a Contracted Mail Route driver for years until he became his Dad's right hand man at The Grand Tap, headquarters of, "The Leaky Lodge". Dick has always looked to his brothers & his only sister for advice on some of his "things he had to get done list" & for some reason, he would always like the way we did it better than him! Imagine that!
Dick loved everybody & everybody loved him!
He really loved his nieces & nephews & that love has now been extended to his great nieces & nephews & even to his great nephew who hasn't arrived yet by telling us, "make sure you tell him about Uncle Dick". He was a wonderful son, brother, uncle, friend, & customer friendly bartender to all of the faithful "Leakey Lodge Members", customers, & friends he has met & has kept over the years. Hey Brother, you sure showed that hated, rotten, disease how tough you really are! We love you and now you are safely home by Mom, Dad, Ronnie, Pete, and everyone who will be there to see you again. Thank You for all of the great memories & you will never be forgotten.
He is survived by his siblings, Jim (Jane) Kohl, Dale Kohl, Robert (Chris) Kohl, Ken (Donna) Kohl, Kelly Kohl, and David Kohl, all of Dubuque, IA; Nieces and nephews, Jessica (Bill) Lanz, Dublin, OH, Jennifer (Travis) Shaffer, Coralville, IA, Jillian (Tim) Castro, Mt. Horeb, WI, J.J. Kohl, North Liberty, IA, Casey (Leslie Schumacher) Kohl, Travis (Nicki) Kohl, Tiffany (Jake) Roling, Jordan (Sidney) Kohl, Tyler (Kaitlin) Kohl, Kyle Kohl, Brandon Kohl, Keith (Katie) Kohl, Amber (Jeremy Torchia) Kohl, Heath (Jenny) Kohl, all of Dubuque, IA; great nieces and nephews, Weston and Scarlett Lanz, Colsen and Chloe Shaffer, Jamie Castro, Brady Kohl, Carsyn Roling, Cooper Roling, Kollins Kohl, Sierrah Torchia, Luca Kohl, and one on the way. Also, his long time buddy Chris Hines.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother Ronald.
