Richard Eugene Schmitz; 74; of 870 Hawkeye Dr. Dubuque, IA 52001 passed away at 6:00 p.m. on July 26, 2016 at Mercy Medical Center.
According to his wishes no public visitation or service will be held. A Celebration of Life for Richard will be held on 9/11/16 at the Eagle View Pavilion at Eagle Point Park at 1:00 p.m. Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road is assisting the family.
Richard was born on November 22, 1941; in Dubuque, IA; the son of Henry “Hank” Schmitz and Eileen “Oak” (Robbins) Martensen
He married Kathaleen (Brown) Schmitz, and worked as a painter until retirement.
Richard loved his stepchildren like his own: Mark Ostrander, Matt Ostrander, Michelle (Ostrander) and Keith Dague; previous wives Sandy Burroughs and Connie (Power) Graziano. He loved spending time with family and friends, especially his grandchildren. Richard loved traveling and made it to 48 states; he could tell a story with the best of them; Tough guy on the outside, a big teddy bear on the inside
Survivors: wife Kathaleen “Kate” (Brown) Schmitz, daughter Renee Kolkovich, daughter Roxanne and Kent Stogdill, son Samuel and Krista (Graham) Schmitz, grandchildren Paige, Christopher, Alisha, Dillon, Jennifer, Maddux, Sully, Clayton, Lillian, Venice, Brianna, Amber, Nicholas, Chelsea, and Andrew, 4 great grandchildren, brother Ronnie and Sandy Schmitz, sister Sue (Martensen) and John Wichman
Preceded in death: parents Henry “Hank” and Eileen “Oak” (Robinson) Schmitz, granddaughter Jennifer Lawson, son Richard “Ricky” Schmitz, son Anthony “Tony” Schmitz
